Luxury Vinyl Planks (LVP) is a new addition to the flooring industry.  It is a reintroduction of the classic sheet vinyl with a twist.  WPC stands for, Wood Plastic Composite, Wood Plastic Core or Water Proof Click, depending on who you talk to.  The finish on these vinyl products is generally 12 mils for residential; our product is 20 mils, which is a little bit over .5 mm.  This means it has a commercially rated finish.  This product line has a 25-year residential finish warranty and a 5-year commercial warranty.  Beneath the 20 mils finish, there is a 1.5mm layer of vinyl.  This is the pattern that you see.  Underneath that is a 5mm, 100% virgin PVC core. The total thickness of this product is 7mm. The wear layer and PVC core are two most important aspects about these products.   Most products in the flooring market are the standard 12mils wear layer.  The thicker the finish layer, the more resilient it is to incidental damage.   In regard to the core, recycled PVC material has the potential for having heavy metals, which can be very toxic.  If the core is any color other than white, it is either recycled or a color filler was added, even though there is no reason, nor need for it. Virgin PVC Cores are white and clean. This LVP comes without padding attached to the material; this is for versatility when installing in Apartments, Condos, Townhomes, and Apartment Homes where an HOA or other building standards may ask for specific underlayment or sound dampening requirements.
